Baby delivered after mom killed crossing the street dies in hospital

HOUSTON

Doctors at Memorial Hermann Hospital performed emergency surgery to deliver the unborn child on Tuesday. The baby had been in critical condition at the hospital since then, but died Thursday.

Police say the mother, 30-year-old Jennifer Young, was trying to cross the street at the intersection of Main and Cambridge at about 9:20am Tuesday when a vehicle hit her.

The driver of the vehicle was questioned and released at the scene. The investigation continues.

Young was a teacher at Rice University. According to university officials, she taught computational and applied mathematics. She had been working at the university of two years.
