An empty car played a key role in a chain-reaction crash on Houston's south side overnight.

The accident happened around 10:45pm Saturday on E. Orem near Webercrest.

According to police, a speeding Hyundai slammed into an empty SUV that was being pulled by a tow truck.

The Hyundai hit the SUV so hard it rammed the wrecker.

The tow truck driver wasn't hurt, but the driver of the Hyundai was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

There is no word yet if that driver will be charged.
