The mother and her children were close to their home to Humble around 1:30am when the woman apparently lost control of the Ford Excursion she was driving on the Eastex Freeway near the San Jacinto River. The vehicle flipped onto its side.
Police say the driver had overcorrected while apparently swerving to avoid hitting something that ran out in front of her.
The children, who investigators say were all adopted, are between three and 12 years old. Police say they were all buckled up properly in the vehicle.
State troopers did verify there were 10 positions in the SUV.
The woman was seriously hurt. The children suffered minor injuries. Three EMS units took the family members to Kingwood Medical Center.
