It happened around 2:45am on Houston's south side at Cullen near Almeda Genoa.
Police say the man was driving south down Cullen when he drifted to the left for some reason and hit the curb.
Investigators say he overcompensated and his car slid across the lanes and into some trees.
The driver was ejected and died at the scene. The car kept rolling back into the roadway.
Officers do not believe the driver was drunk, but they say he may have been tired or on his phone.
No one else was involved in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
