Southeast Texas prepping for hurricanes

HOUSTON

They headed to the George R. Brown Convention Center on Saturday for a hurricane workshop.

Harris County authorities and local vendors were there to answer questions about protecting homes, developing evacuation plans and getting help after a storm.

Speakers included the current and former directors of the National Hurricane Center and our very own Meteorologist David Tillman.

Also on Saturday, a four-hour hurricane workshop was held in Pasadena.

ABC13 Meteorologist Travis Herzog hosted a special presentation at the convention center there.

And don't forget your pets as you prepare for hurricane season. Pet owners visited the Houston Humane Society on Saturday to get vaccines and microchips for their dogs and cats.

The Humane Society says microchips identify animals if collars get lost, and pets must be vaccinated to be accepted into storm shelters.

Pet owners were also reminded to add pet food and medicines to their supply checklists.
