Speed blamed in fatal NW Houston crash

HOUSTON

The crash happened around midnight Friday on the 610 Loop access road at Hempstead Highway.

According to officials, the driver failed to observe "turn only" signs. The vehicle hit a curb, tumbled over the railroad tracks, flipped and then came to rest near a support pillar beneath 610.

The car was mangled beyond recognition. The driver died at the scene. His name has not been released.

Witnesses told police the driver was traveling about 90mph when the crash happened. Investigators said there was no evidence that the man was intoxicated.
