Suspect sought in fatal beating of man inside south side Houston home

HOUSTON

Houston police say officers responded to an assault in-progress call at a residence in the 5200 block of Van Fleet at around 12:30am Friday and found three victims severely beaten and a man deceased. All four were assaulted by one suspect, whom they were socializing with when the incident began.

According to police the deceased victim, Baron Keith Armstrong, 45, was looking for his keys and began to ask the others on the whereabouts of the keys. An argument started and the suspect attacked Armstrong and beat him unconscious. The suspect then turned his anger on the other victims, beat them unconscious and then further assaulted Armstrong with household objects.

The suspect fled just before officers arrived.

Three other victims, two women and one man in their 40s and 50s, were also assaulted. One of the women was sexually assaulted. All three were transported to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The female victims positively identified Castaneda as their attacker.

Castaneda, 25, is charged with aggravated sexual assault, with a possible murder charge to follow, say police. Castaneda is not in custody.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of suspect Johnathan Castaneda is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
