The No Refusal initiative is underway this holiday weekend, and anyone caught boating while intoxicated will be ordered to give a mandatory blood sample.

Montgomery, Harris and Galveston Counties are taking part in the No Refusal campaign in an effort to keep area waterways safe this Memorial Day weekend.

If you don't want to risk a BWI charge, the Designated Skipper program is underway at Lake Conroe.

Under the Designated Skipper program, boat owners can pay the private company DD4Hire $10 an hour to safely ferry an owner's boat and its occupants around Lake Conroe. Call 877-780-7384 to reserve the service.

Boaters who want to volunteer in the Designated Skipper program this weekend can call the DA's Office at 936-539-7800. Volunteers can take advantage of free meals from participating businesses on the lake.
