Family members tell Fort Worth television station KXAS pilot Steve Dauenhouer was killed Sunday evening while he was trying to land the Cessna 210 on a grass runway about a half-mile from his home in Boyd.
His 19-year-old son, the son's girlfriend and her father all were taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas for treatment of burns. Relatives say the pilot's son was able to save them but not his father.
The four were returning from Louisiana.
Federal aviation officials are investigating.
