San Antonio man shot dead by officers identified

SAN ANTONIO, TX

The incident happened just before midnight Friday at a house in southeastern San Antonio. Police Chief William McManus said officers responding to a domestic violence report were met at the front door by a young girl.

McManus says Gilbert Luis stepped up, armed with a 12-inch butcher knife, and lunged at the officers. The officers opened fire, wounding the 24-year-old man in the abdomen. He died a short time later at San Antonio Military Medical Center.

No one else was injured. McManus says the offices have been placed on administrative duty pending an internal investigation. He says both officers have been on the force for 1 1/2 years.
