Chase in east Houston prompts school lockdown

HOUSTON

Harris County sheriff's deputies tried to stop the driver of a Dodge pickup, who they say was traveling at excessive speeds on Highway 90 shortly before 11am. Police say the driver wouldn't stop, and led them on a chase with speeds reaching 100 miles per hour.

The suspect drove around the Budweiser plant, hit a stop sign at Flint along the I-10 feeder road and lost control. That's when the driver bailed on foot. Police were able to catch up with him, and he was taken into custody.

A female passenger in the vehicle ran to a nearby beauty salon and called someone for help. She is not being called a suspect at this point. A malnourished dog was also apparently inside the vehicle. Animal Control was called out the scenel.

Whittier Elementary was placed on lockdown during the search for the suspect.
