Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Guillermina Saldana says the teenager called 911 on Wednesday night to report the shooting in their Carson home, about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.
Saldana says the boy was arrested Thursday morning.
His 40-year-old father is a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent. He was shot in the head by a bullet that was fired through a window from the home's backyard.
Saldana says there's no word on a motive.
