The Butterfly Flutter By family fundraising event was held by the Changing Minds Foundation to raise awareness of available treatments and research.
Children with Down syndrome helped release 1,000 butterflies at the event.
The butterflies were sponsored for a donation of $21, representative of Trisomy 21 -- a chromosomal condition caused by the presence of all or part of an extra 21st chromosome that causes Down syndrome.
Down syndrome affects one in every 733 babies born in the U.S.
