Authorities found the 20-year-old victim's body around 2:30am Sunday in the 300 block of Airtex near Brundage.
According to investigators, the victim was with friends at a party in the Kimberly Pointe apartment complex when he saw two men breaking into his girlfriend's car across the street.
Officials said the victim, his brother and a friend ran after the alleged thieves.
The suspects split up, leaving the victim chasing one and his brother and friend chasing the other.
The victim's brother and friend soon lost sight of the person they were following. Then, they heard gunshots on the other side of the complex.
Investigators said they got into a car and drove to the other side where they found the victim lying in the street. He was dead when authoriities arrived.
Officials don't know if the car burglary suspect shot the man or if it was someone else.
