HCSO carries the torch for Special Olympians

HOUSTON

Sheriff Garcia carried a torch and joined hundreds of runners for a 5K at the University of Houston.

Law enforcement officers taking part in Sunday's '5-0 for S.O.' raised funds for the Special Olympics Texas Law Enforcement Torch Run, which happens annually in May.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is Special Olympics' largest grassroots fundraiser in the world. Law enforcement officers throughout the world carry the "Flame of Hope" through the streets of their communities and deliver it to their local, state, national or world Special Olympics Games.

More than 3,500 Special Olympics athletes in the Houston area will benefit from Sunday's event.
