Two masked men burst into a garage apartment in the 6200 block of Rietta near Camay just before midnight Saturday.
The gunmen ambushed several people who were inside the building, which is detached from the victim's mother's home.
Witnesses told police the shooters wore hoodies and had their faces covered bandanas. They yelled "freeze," then opened fire.
David N. Washington, 41, was shot and died at the scene.
Two of Washington's friends jumped out a back window to escape the bullets. Another hid inside a closet.
Police say the gunmen did not take anything as they fled the scene.
The killers remain on the loose. Anyone with information can call police or Crime Stoppers.
