Man, 20, charged with intoxication manslaughter

HOUSTON

The accident happened at around 8pm on February 23 in the 3900 block of FM 1942. A witness told a Harris County Sheriff's deputy that a pickup crossed the center line and struck the motorcycle rider head-on. The victim was thrown clear of the crash and landed in a ditch. Court documents identify the rider as Larry Ferguson, who died at the scene.

The deputy interviewed Tyler Dale Honeycutt, 20, at San Jacinto Hospital, where emergency crews had taken him for treatment of his injuries. Honeycutt reportedly admitted being the driver of the pickup truck, and told the deputy that he had been drinking prior to the crash and taking narcotics that day for root canal pain.

The deputy said he observed Honeycutt with bloodshot eyes and slurred speech before taking a blood sample. Court records show lab tests determined Honeycutt had alcohol, marijuana, hydrocodone and other substances in his blood.

Honeycutt has been charged with intoxication manslaughter. Bail has been set at $30,000.
