Online event crowns Bridges honorary bowling champ

ARLINGTON, TX

Actor Jeff Bridges, who starred in the 1998 comedy "The Big Lebowski," has won an online competition sponsored by the Bowling Proprietors' Association of American.

The Dallas area-based association on Friday announced its Hall of Fame Legacy Award winner as chosen by bowling fans.

Bridges portrays Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski in a movie about a laid-back bowler who is mistaken for a millionaire. The BPAA says voters backed Bridges over actor Bill Murray, who portrayed Ernie McCracken in the 1996 film "Kingpin."

Pop star Britney Spears was crowned champion in the overall 2012 Celebrity Bowler Contest.

The awards were part of the bowling association's third annual online competition.
