Gabriel Barrionuevo killed 18-year-old Jessica Thrash last September by beating her with his hand, a tire and a wheel. Her body was found at the bottom of a staircase at the southeast Houston apartment complex where they lived. Police say Thrash suffered injuries to her head, and her skull was crushed.
Barrionuevo initially told police Thrash fell down the stairs, however police told us at that time that they didn't buy his story.
On Tuesday, he was sentenced to 35 years in prison. He'll have to serve half of the sentence before he's eligible for parole.
