Last month the Beren Academy Stars fell just short of state champions in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial school playoffs. But it was their struggle to participate in that game that grabbed national headlines.
The orthodox Jewish school was nearly forced to forfeit its spot in the playoffs because the final game conflicted with the Sabbath. After a court injunction, the team was allowed to reschedule and play.
The team was honored for representing the city well.
