Ex-worker pleads guilty to Texas bank fraud

TEXARKANA, TX

Mellissa Kay Morris of Winnsboro pleaded guilty Monday in Texarkana to conspiracy to commit bank fraud. No sentencing date has been set. Investigators say Morris was assistant manager of Pioneer Credit Company in Mount Pleasant when she falsified loan applications. Authorities believe Morris stole more than $200,000 before her indictment last August. Prosecutors say Morris would use a customer's name, Social Security number and other personal information to create a loan application. She would approve the loan, issue a credit union check in the customer's name, then forge the signature and keep the money.
