Mom, toddler killed in hit-and-run accident

Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident in west Houston that left a two-year-old child and her mother dead in the middle of the street early Saturday.

According to the Houston Police Department, the victims were crossing Westheimer at Panagard Drive between Eldridge and Texas 6 around 2:30am when they were hit by an unknown dark-colored vehicle. There is no light at the intersection.

The driver did not stop. Victoria Miranda, 24, and her daughter Emma were pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said there was a third person with the mother and child who was not struck. That person is being interviewed as a key witness.
