Bryanna Lopez, 25, is charged with endangering a child, stemming from an incident at around 9pm Thursday in the parking lot of a JC Penney along the East Sam Houston Parkway.
Investigators say a Harris County Sheriff's deputy was notified of a woman who appeared disoriented in the parking lot and was having a lot of difficulty trying to change a toddler's diaper.
According to court documents, when the deputy approached the woman, who he identified as Lopez, he noticed that her speech was slurred and her pupils were dilated. She also reportedly had poor balance and was stumbling.
The deputy said he then noticed a toddler wearing only a shirt and no diaper walking unattended in the parking lot between 20 and 25 feet away from Lopez. Court documents say that when the deputy asked Lopez where her son was, she said he was in the car. However, no one was inside.
Bail for Lopez has been set at $2,000.
