Contract not renewed for Cleveland teacher accused of choking fifth grader

CLEVELAND, TX

On Tuesday night, the Cleveland ISD board voted against renewing Carlos Artieda's contract. Artieda is currently on paid administrative leave while he's investigated for injury to a child.

The student's father made the outcry last month after his son allegedly came home from Eastside Elementary School with red marks and bruises. Artieda told us he did grab the boys' shirt, but did not choke him.

Artieda is entitled to a hearing before the board.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the campus administration with the assistance of the Cleveland ISD Police Department.
