City Council lifts ban to allow tailgating in downtown Houston

HOUSTON

The Houston Dynamo will be moving to the new BBVA Compass Stadium in the East End beginning in May. A city ordinance forbid any public drinking in the central business district but with the amended ordinance, fans can celebrate the games outside the stadium as well.

The ordinance will allow alcohol on property operated by sports teams, including open parking lots.

Houston Astros owner Jim Crane said the team is considering tailgating options outside Minute Maid Park and they will have an answer in about a week.

The Rockets own a parking garage and not open lots, and say there are no plans to start tailgating.
