Fight between men ends in fatal shooting in Fifth Ward

HOUSTON

It happened at the victim's home on Lee near Hutton in east Houston at 9:30pm. Investigators say Moises Macias, 27, was arguing with a group of other men from another part of the neighborhood earlier in the day over the possible assault of Macias' girlfriend.

The fight was broken up, but police say about an hour later one suspect approached Macias, who was standing in the yard outside his home. The suspect pulled out a gun and shot several times in Macias' direction, striking him in the torso.

"(The first) was simply a verbal argument. But later, another argument ensued outside the victim's house. Gunfire erupted and the victim was shot and killed," said Sgt. Ryan Chandler with the Houston Police Department.

Macias retreated inside his home as the suspect fled the scene. Macias' family immediately called 911 and attempted to give him first aid, but Macias died at the scene.

Police are still searching for the suspects. Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
