It happened around 10:30pm on West Mount Houston near Cora. Investigators say the victim was trying to cross the road with a shopping cart full of items when she was struck by the car as it was traveling eastbound. She died at the scene.
"There's no crosswalk. The pedestrian failed to yield the right of way to the vehicle in the roadway and was struck by the vehicle," said Deputy B. Troyer with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "The pedestrian died at the scene from injuries resulting in the crash."
Investigators say the driver will not face charges since she stopped to help. The victim's name has not been released.
