San Antonio: Police return fire, kill gunman

SAN ANTONIO, TX

Police Chief William McManus says the gunman was fatally shot before dawn Thursday. No officers were hurt.

McManus says officers were dispatched after being contacted by operators of a crisis hotline about a man threatening suicide. McManus says police searched the area and found the gunman along a roadway.

Police say the suspect taunted and threatened the officers, firing at least once. Two officers then shot the man, who later died at a hospital.

His name was not immediately released.
