Man pleads guilty in decades-old murder

SUGAR LAND, TX

Richard Allen Howe, 53, was serving a 17-year sentence in a Texas prison for sexual assault when Sugar Land detectives connected him to the violent death of Mina Anne Bomar, 51, of Houston. Bomar was found beaten and strangled in an abandoned building near Dairy Ashford back in September of 1989.

The trail had gone cold until a DNA match linked Howe to Bomar's murder and the cold case was reopened.

Just days into his capital murder trial last week, Howe pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison. He waived his right to an appeal.
