Astros decide to keep pistol as part of Colt .45s jersey

HOUSTON

There had been some concern by Major League Baseball about the use of a pistol as part of the logo, and originally mandated the team lose it from the jersey when sporting their retro uniforms.

But the league had a change of heart and decided the decision on whether or not to include the firearm on the jersey rested with the Astros.

In a message posted on the Houston Astros Facebook page around noon on Friday, the team announced that the logo will stay on the uniforms for games on April 10 and April 20.

"The fans have spoken again and I can only stand with the fans on this decision. I would like to thank Major League Baseball for allowing us to make the final decision," said team owner Jim Crane in the posting.

Earlier this offseason, the team garnered headlines when Crane announced the possibility of changing the team name. That didn't sit well with fans, and Crane announced shortly after that the name change option was taken off the table.
