Official: Deputy shoots suspect who tried to run over him

SPLENDORA, TX

Authorities say that around 12:30pm Tuesday, a witness reported a car driving erratically, with someone inside throwing what appeared to be drug paraphernalia out the window. Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies were notified and they tried to locate the car.

A chase ensued before ending up in the southeast portion of the county. The suspect, who was driving what witnesses describe as an old Plymouth vehicle, tried to turn around and run over some deputies. That's when they fired several shots, with at least one hitting the man in the chest.

The man continued to drive for a short distance before coming to a stop. He was then transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. His condition is unknown.

Witnesses describe the end of the chase as a type of slow speed pursuit. The rural area where things came to a conclusion was full of dead-end streets, so they don't believe the suspect would have gotten very far.

The investigation is ongoing.
