Houstonians take a stand against violence

HOUSTON

The Houston Area Women's Center held its Race Against Violence near downtown Saturday.

Thousands of people ran in the 5-K to raise funds for the center's programs to stop domestic and sexual violence.

The event raised more than $218,000.

In north Houston on Saturday, Neighborhood crime was the target of a march.

The Houston Police Department organized its 28th annual March Against Crime near Clement Martinez Elementary School.

Police say the goal is to get neighbors to be vigilant about their own protection and to look out for one another.

They say that's the best strategy for reducing crime in neighborhoods.
