It happened at the Valero on West Little York near TC Jester. Police tell us a passerby found the injured man on the ground by the gas pumps at about 11:20pm.
Police and paramedics were called out to the scene. The victim, who has been identified by police as John Swan, 48, was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition.
There were no witnesses to what happened, not even the clerk at the convenience store. Police are still working to gather more information.
"At this time, weapons are unknown but he was beaten badly on the face," said Sgt. Peg Jewel with the Houston Police Department. "We have no witnesses right now and we are going to try to get the camera footage from the store."
It has not been determined, at this time, if the assault occurred at 3400 Little York or another location. There are no known motive nor suspect or suspects.
