Bus catches fire in northwest Harris County

HOUSTON

The incident happened on the inbound service road of Highway 290 near Katy-Hockley Road.

A witness at the scene tell us that the driver of a private charter bus had picked up a group of firefighters from New Jersey at the airport and dropped them off at Texas A&M. During his drive back to Houston from College Station, he started to smell smoke in the back of the bus so he pulled onto the feeder road and saw the fire underneath the bus.

The driver actually grabbed a fire extinguisher and got under the wheel to put it out, but the flames quickly spread.

The Tri-County Fire Department then arrived and extinguished the flames.

The bus is operated by Continental.

The feeder road was closed for about two hours until they towed the bus away.
