Ford leader says plan now for future traffic jams

DEARBORN, MI

Bill Ford Jr. will tell a mobile electronic device conference in Barcelona, Spain, today that the world's roadways will become paralyzed as the world population grows by another 2 billion people to 9 billion in 40 years.

According to LMC Automotive, a Michigan-based consulting firm, there are already 1.2 billion cars and trucks on the world's roads, and another 144 million will be added in just four years.

Ford will tell the mobile electronic device industry that they should join automakers and lawmakers in developing communications solutions. He says he doesn't have a solution but some helpful technologies are less than five years away. They include radar-based cruise control and more blind spot monitoring systems.
