Widow attacked by deceased husband's friend

HOUSTON

According to court documents, the victim was widowed in October. Shortly after her husband's death, Jorge Luis Guzman started calling and asking if he could come to her home and offer condolences.

The woman told Harris County Sheriff's Office investigators that she had never met Guzman before and believed he was a friend of her deceased husband.

Court documents state that Guzman, 43, forced his way into the woman's home on January 21.

She screamed and tried to run, officials said, but Guzman caught her and allegedly groped her inappropriately.

The woman was eventually able to get free. She said she ran into her back yard and told her neighbor what happened as Guzman got into his pickup and sped away.

The woman's neighbor told investigators that he had seen Guzman outside the woman's home earlier that day and once about a week earlier.

The victim picked Guzman out of a photo lineup and identified him by name, officials said. Deputies interviewed Guzman, who denied the accusations.

He has been charged with felony burglary of a habitation with intent to commit sexual assault. He was in jail Monday with bail set at $70,000.
