Fire destroys several apartments in Webster

HOUSTON

The blaze erupted around 7pm in Building 17 of the Baystone Apartments in the 800 block of West NASA Parkway.

Staff wouldn't allow us on the property, but behind a fence there, we could see firefighter still on the scene well after they had extinguished the blaze.

It was the fiery and chaotic scene for the tenants who witnessed the blaze. The flames were very intense as the fire spread across that building.

Police say the fire destroyed between 12 and 16 apartments in this complex. Tenants we spoke with say all but one of the apartments was occupied.

Many of those families say they lost everything. Some even believe they lost pets.

"I heard that it was a grease fire in a neighbor's apartment, in the kitchen," resident Jose Ramirez said.

"I had a dog and a cat. Luckily, the neighbors got the dog out, he was in a kennel. But the cat, I don't think made it," resident Bonnie Guinn said.

So far, investigators have not yet released an official cause of the fire.
