Estranged husband arrested in ambush-style shooting deaths of his wife, her niece

HOUSTON

Investigators say Ricardo Prado ambushed and killed his estranged wife Rachael Prado and her 19-year-old niece Jasmine Rhodes early Monday morning. Deputies say the victims had just parked in Rachael's mother's home in the 7800 block of Mosewood when Ricardo emerged with a gun, and shot and killed Rachael and Rhodes.

According to police, Ricardo Prado, 31, was seen running from the scene, and was later arrested.

The victim's family says the arrest isn't surprising, based on Prado's recent actions.

"He'd come over here, do a lot of damage to the cars, houses; made threats to her," said Ronda Madison, the victim's mother.

Investigators say he had a history of domestic violence against the victim.

The victim's family says he was upset that Rachael Prado, 28, wanted to divorce him. The couple was married for 11 years and had two children.

No bond has been set in the case.
