Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office detectives believed the suspect, Matthew Kinsel, had fled to Colorado where his parents live and sent a warrant for his arrest. Kinsel, 29, is awaiting extradition in La Plata County, Colorado after being arrested by authorities there.
On February 2, the victim's family notified Austin County detectives that they had learned their 14-year-old daughter was involved in a sexual relationship with Kinsel. On February 6, Fort Bend detectives went to Kinsel's apartment in the Katy area but found that Kinsel had fled.
Detectives say they were told Kinsel would pick up the 14-year-old at her home late at night when the rest of the family was asleep. Then he would take her to his apartment in Katy where the assaults would occur.
On February 8, an arrest warrant was issued for Kinsel and forwarded to La Plata County Sheriff's Office in Durango. On February 9, detectives from that agency notified Fort Bend detectives that Kinsel had been taken into custody without incident.
Kinsel's charge is a second degree felony and carries a penalty ranging from 2 to 20 years in prison and may include a fine up to $10,000.
