HPD seeking man accused of killing wife, her friend

HOUSTON

Gunshots rang out around 7am on Yellow Pine near Woodland Oaks.

Police are looking for Diego Martinez. He's approximately 42 years old, 5'5", 207 pounds with black hair and a mustache. Police say he shot and killed his wife Martha Nava De Martinez and 31-year-old Omar Salazar, a male friend visiting her.

Apparently, Diego came to the house on Yellow Pine to find Alicia and her male friend there. He allegedly fatally shot her in the face and Salazar in the head.

Three children belonging to Diego and Martha were also in the home at the time. Police gave their approximate ages as 13, 19 and 20. They have been taken in to be interviewed by police. They were not shot, but they suffered abrasions that police believe were sustained in a scuffle during the incident.

A neighbor who didn't want to be identified recalled what she heard.

"The first time I heard was one gunshot," she said. "It sounded real loud. And I was like, 'Oh my god!' Then right after that, then two more gunshots came. ... And then I heard a lady scream, so I ran out my front door, because I was thought, 'Oh my god, what is going on?'"

Police describe Martinez as a jealous husband.

HPD Sgt. Collin Howard said, "The husband, he had just gotten home. He left to go to work and he returned and he found the wife and the friend inside the house."

Police believe Diego fled the scene of the shooting in a 1997 black Ford F-150 with a silver or white lining along the bottom, with Texas license plate AX67304.

Police are still investigating the shooting. They do say Martinez was sentenced to 10 days in jail last month. He was indicted for assaulting his youngest child and a protective order keeping him from coming near the family's home expired about two weeks ago.

Salazar was taken to an area hospital, where he died.
