Debra Ann Norton, 45, is charged with murder. She is accused in the death of her common-law husband, Charles Brown, 47.
Police say Norton shot Brown in the head and the back on January 13. He was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he died of his injuries two weeks later on January 27.
According to court documents, Norton told police that Brown had been cheating on her and was 'disrespecting her'. She told the officer that she cursed at her husband and he responded by threatening to knock her out. That's when she says she got out a gun and shot him.
On Tuesday, Norton was charged in Brown's death and was arrested without incident. Bail has been set at $50,000.
