Asia Society to open facility in museum district

HOUSTON

The Asia Society Texas Center is a place to showcase art, culture and education of Asian countries. The institution has been in Houston over 30 years, and in just a few weeks, its new building will open.

The elegant structure houses an art gallery, performing arts theater as well as an education space for children and adults. The Asia Society features about 60 countries from Japan to Iran, to Mongolia and Australia.

"I think we really want people to know we are here for Houston. We want to be a resource for learning about Asia," said Martha Blackwelder, executive direction of the Asia Society Texas Center.

The museum is scheduled to open April 12 with a three-day festival. Entry will be free.
