Mother charged with shaking infant son

HOUSTON

Kesha Debrisha Sanchez, 26, is charged with injury to a child. In November 2011, Sanchez took her three-month-old baby to Memorial Hermann Hospital Southwest because he was having trouble breathing.

According to court documents, chest x-rays showed the baby had broken ribs. Sanchez told medical staff her older children may have jumped on the baby while they were playing on the bed.

Further medical tests reportedly showed brain injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome. Police say Sanchez offered no explanation for how the brain injuries may have occurred. She later told police the baby's father has a temper, and she didn't know what went on during his visits with the infant.

Sanchez was then scheduled for a polygraph examination, but just before the test, she reportedly confessed to shaking the baby.

Bail is set at $30,000 in the felony case.
