Pay to name Houston police horse to help pay for hay

HOUSTON

The Houston Police Foundation website Tuesday provided details on the adopt-a-horse program.

The deadline is Jan. 27. The money will help pay for a year's care for one of the mounted patrol's more than 30 horses.

Lt. Randall Wallace says the cost of hay is up due to the drought. Officials estimate it costs about $2,400 annually for hay, feed and bedding per horse, plus money for bridles, saddles and other tack.

The chosen name will be displayed on the saddle pad worn on patrol duty. A plaque with the name of the sponsor will be put on the stall.
