Angleton man killed, wife injured in double stabbing

ANGLETON, TX

According to officials, the stabbing happened just after 1pm Saturday at a home in the 800 block of N. Tinsley Street at Miller Street.

It is the home where the Wilcox family has lived in recent years. It has no fenced backyard, and it's possible that whoever robbed and stabbed the husband and wife there entered through the back of the house. There was no sign of forced entry.

Once inside, the suspect stabbed Alton Wilcox, 85, and his wife Darla, 69. Both were fixtures in their quiet neighborhood.

"He'd walk all over town. Walk to get his hair cut, walk the neighborhood. They've been down there 10 years, but I may be wrong. And his wife was active, too," neighbor Amy Spaulding said.

Missing from the driveway was Darla Wilcox's car. It was recovered a few miles away at an Angleton motel, parked on the grass beside the building rather than in a parking lot.

One person was detained for questioning and has not been released. Police said they have not determined whether that person is involved.

Alton and Darla Wilcox were both taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital via LifeFlight.

Alton Wilcox died of his stab wounds. At last check, his wife was in critical condition.
