Interim constable sworn in to replace Jack Abercia

HOUSTON

In an emergency meeting, Commissioners swore in interim replacement Kenneth W. Berry, who was already slated to take over the office at the end of this month.

But late last night, constable Abercia submitted a letter making his resignation effective immediately. Berry will hold the office until voters decide on a permanent replacement in November.

Abercia and two of his staff members were taken into federal custody Thursday morning amid an investigation into the Precinct One office.
