Rice University police say a strong-armed robbery was attempted early Tuesday on the gravel path between Entrance 5 on Main Street and Wiess College. Around 5:30am a consultant for the university was approached by two males after they jumped out from behind some bushes.
One of the men reached for the consultant's backpack, and the victim struck him with his computer case. The two men then fled toward Main Street.
The consultant was not harmed and none of his belongings was stolen. The victim described one of the suspects as a slender black male in his late 20s with a hoodie and glasses. He said the other was a slender Middle Eastern male, also in his late 20s with a ball cap worn backwards. The victim reported the incident to the Rice University Police Department at 8:30am.
