According to the Houston Fire Department and Solid Waste Management Department, your house can catch fire if you leave dried out Christmas trees around your property. They advise getting rid of the trees when they start dropping needles. Officials say the dead trees are a major fire hazard you should not keep them in your house, garage, not even against your home.
Dead trees are not the only fire hazard this time of year. As the temperature drops, the fire department says people should be careful when using space heaters and other heating sources. And make sure you have a working smoke alarm.
