Houston police say officers were called to Ben Taub General Hospital the night of December 11 after Patrone Brooks, 37, died there from blunt force trauma injuries. According to police, a preliminary investigation led officers to 4200 Barberry where multiple bullet casings were found. At this time, it is unknown if the assault and shooting incidents are related.
Further investigation, police say, identified Joseph Leonard Ellis as one suspect in this case and he was taken into custody without incident on December 14.
Ellis, 32, is charged with deadly conduct in the 208th State District Court.
Other unidentified suspects remain at large, police say.
