Man arrested in stabbing death of pregnant woman

HOUSTON

Omoyeme Erazua and her unborn child died after she was stabbed in southwest Houston on August 22, 2010 and her body was left in a grassy ditch in the 10500 block of Richmond. Police found blood at the scene and compared it to the blood from the fetus. They determined the blood came from the father of the baby, later identified as Joseph Michael Devia.

Investigators discovered that Erazua was staying at the Mission of Yahweh shelter prior to her death and they found text messages exchanged between the victim and defendant.

Devia, 19, is charged with capital murder. Police say Devia is in custody in Chicago after he had enlisted in the Navy.

Police say they are starting proceedings to extradite Devia back to Houston.
